Where to Visit in Kauai: Kapa’a Beach

In Kauai, my grandma and I stayed in the charming town of Kapa’a, on Kauai’s Southeast shore. It is a 30 minute drive from the Lihue airport. You can book a shuttle or schedule a taxi from the airport to Kapa’a, but it’s a good idea to rent a car instead. Taxis and Ubers are more rare on Kauai, so you can’t rely on them when you need to return to the airport. Plus there’s tons to see on the island. Having a car makes getting around so much easier. When planning your budget for Kauai, I would highly recommend factoring in the price of a car rental first.

After researching car rentals, I decided to rent a car through the Turo app. The people we rented from were so kind and met us at the airport. Pick up and drop off were seamless. The car was brand new and there were automatic features that made driving and parking easier. With that said driving in Kauai is already pretty stress-free—the roads are 2 lanes yet there is little traffic. Drivers are patient and courteous and always let other cars merge first. It was something I was not used to coming from California!

Here are some videos I made on my YouTube Channel-Angela Xue Jing. I will be uploading a series of videos documenting my Hawaiian Travels, so be sure to subscribe to my channel and this playlist!

Kapa’a Beach is lined with beautiful tall trees that framed the sunrise in the morning. Our balcony was steps away from the sand, and every morning while I was still sleeping I could hear my Laolao quietly open the sliding door to watch the sunrise on the balcony. It was adorable.

I enjoyed swimming in this water every day. I took every chance I got to jump into those waves. The water was very clear and, even in February, the sky was so sunny and blue. The water was about 75-80 degrees and the waves were gentle enough for a relaxing swim. My 80 year old grandma had a blast swimming in it too!

The airbnb we were staying in was a short walk away from the Coconut Marketplace, where we could easily pick up breakfast or lunch. Overall it was a very relaxed area to stay in, close to shops but not overcrowded. We met a lot of nice people who live in the condos. There was 90 year old lady who chatted with me while walking her small dog. She was so sweet.

There are lawns and paved walkways between the condos and the beach. You can watch the waves from hammocks lining the beach but be careful—I lost my balance while trying to eat shave ice on a hammock and tipped backwards and fell on my head. I brushed myself off and got another shave ice.
